February 2021

 February 1, 2021

Last p-day wasn't really eventful other than me getting a soccer ball stuck between the  ceiling and a thing on the wall.  The elders were like how did you do that. All I did was kick the ball really hard, but apparently I have really bad aim or really good aim. ๐Ÿ˜…

Tuesday was Zone Conference! Whoop Whoop! I only had to drive 8 minutes to get there. It was my first real Zone Conference because my last two were a big zoom call and the Christmas one. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. We talked about how the tree of life is Christ. When we come unto Christ (the tree of life) we receive so many blessings. “And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God” (Doctrine & Covenants 14:7).

They fed us lunch which was awesome because I am always for free food. I was asked to say the prayer to bless the food. It was scary, but little did I know I was going to do something even worse later...We restarted our English class at lesson 1. We have been advertising it for the past 3 weeks. A video on Facebook with the Elder DeMille, Pugsley and the guy over (the name of language thing) had over 5,000 views. We ended up having a ton of people come. Elder Skousen said he stopped counting after 40, but we probably had around 50-65. It was crazy! We had to print off more papers twice! I gave the spiritual thought in front of all of them. It was terrifying!! After English class, we had a really good lesson with Francisco after with two members! He is doing really well. He has lots of really good questions. We are going to put him on date soon!

We went out to lunch with Elder DeMille, Skousen and Presidente to Chick-fil-a again! 2nd time around and it was super fun. It was pouring outside, but that is going to become the new normal. It is probably going to rain everyday. A guy came over and told us that he was impressed by the work we do but doesn't believe the same as us. Then when asked what he thought we were and he said Jehovah's witnesses. Then we explained what we were and he was like, "Oh you guys are Mormons. I like Mormons."๐Ÿ˜‚ We told him that we teach about the gospel and got his number. He told us that he knows a little about other churches because he has studied them. We got his number and set up a lesson with him. He told us that his eyes are being opened and that we are two beautiful angels that showed him the light. We just gave him a Book of Mormon today and he said he is going to read it.

Thursday's english class didn't have as many people but we still had A LOT! We split the classes up into muy basico/fรกcil y muy avanzado. Hermana Bowen and I taught the harder one. It is kind of funny. The harder class is easier for us to teach because we use more English. We always joke that they should be teaching the class and not us.

We made cookies earlier that day. We are going and visiting a lot of members to get to know the branch more. The problem is that we don't know who is active or not. Friday night we went and visited a family. The member hasn't been active in a long time. We will be going back there again to teach her family. Covid wrecked church attendance, and a lot of people went inactive or moved.

La noche de fรบtbol is going great! We had a really good turn out! I made a goal! We found a guy named David. We had a lesson with him yesterday and it went really well. I made a goal!!! It bounced off Roger (a member) into the goal! Hermana Bowen and I impressed Presidente. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

To get to the title. Hermana Bowen and I went to visit a guy named Paco and his family. We have taught them the Plan of Salvation so far. I being the idiot I am, put in the wrong time to go visit them. I said 3pm to them but put in 4:30pm. Crazy mix up! We got to Paco’s house and they were leaving to go sell Tamales. We were going to buy two of them and they gave them to us for free. We asked him where his neighbors lived who we taught with them last week. As we were driving to their house, we got stuck behind a van. It was an Ice Cream Van/Truck!!! I begged Hermana Bowen to go get ice cream, so we did. The guy selling it is named Bruce. We started talking to him and got his number and address. We sent it to the Zone Leaders and they found him!! Tis why it is called “Cravings From the Holy Ghost.” I now know another way the Holy Ghost speaks and it is through my stomach.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‹

We had a late lunch with Presidente and his wife Lucia. It was super fun. We went with Elder DeMille and Skousen. The food was delicious! I was super full after. We got to hear the whole backstory of their wedding and it was hilarious๐Ÿ˜‚. They were engaged after seeing each other only 3 times! But everything turned out well for them. It was pretty funny because when we went to bless the food Presidente and Lucia held out their hands. So we all held hands and prayed. I held Presidente’s hand and Hermana Bowen’s. Elder DeMille and Skousen had to hold each other’s hands.๐Ÿ˜‚ Then we blessed the house and I was stuck in the middle of them, so I had to hold their hands.๐Ÿ˜‚ Crazy things happen out in the mission. I never thought that was going to happen.๐Ÿ˜‚

Love you guys! Have a great week!

                                                February 8, 2021

Hola Todos! This week was awesome! There were lots of downs, but ups that followed them. Life is as crazy as ever with Hermana Bowen! We have sooo many backstories and inside jokes. It is funny talking about high school and the people that we both knew.

Last p-day was pretty mellow, but was awesome. We set up a mini pickle ball field in the gym with some tables. Elder Skousen and I dominated! We beat Hermana Bowen and Elder Tatro both times we played. We all played Coup again. I have got to think of a strategy so I can win. I haven’t won since the first round I played. After all the fun and games were over Hermana Bowen and I went over to Hermana Tapia’s house. I didn’t think that she was going to feed us (because not everytime does she feed us), but she did. She loaded our plates up with potato salad and chicken.

We had our first DCM of the transfer! It was great because I missed doing them. We don’t have them Zone Conference week or transfer week. It was Elder Skousen’s birthday so we threw a surprise party for him. The whole district pitched in and put it together. I made a cake (we also brought ice cream), and the elders got a card and decorations. Hermana Bowen and I decorated before we went to Hermana Tapia’s house. It was a really good DCM. We talked about the Restoration and all the things that we have now because of it. We have temples, the knowledge of the plan of salvation, eternal families/life, the atonement, the priesthood, and the list goes on. I am so grateful that I was able to grow up in the gospel. That my parents taught me and were amazing examples. I don’t know what I would do without the knowledge I have. That is one of the reasons why I chose to go on a mission. In Alma, it talks about how the sons of Mosiah didn’t want any soul to perish. That shows much they wanted to share the gospel. I invite you all to share the gospel every opportunity you have. I wouldn’t have the gospel in my life without people sharing with my ancestors on my dad’s side, and my grandparents on my mom’s side. You never know what will happen. The worst they can do is say no.

English class has been going super awesome! We started teaching a 15-20 minute lesson after the class is done. We normally start the class with a prayer and end with a spiritual thought and a prayer, but now we added the lesson. We have had a lot of people staying after for the lessons. We are hoping that we will find a lot of people that have been prepared for the gospel.

We got to go to Yorktown again! It was awesome! Hermana Bowen and I got to go because we hit our goal for finding people this week. Instead of sweeping a tour this time, we swept underneath the planes. It was really cool going under them. I got into a place where the bomb’s drop and Hermana Bowen was like, “You’re the bomb!” Then we got to go wipe off windows in one of the tours. I hope we can go again. The people and veterans who work there really appreciate the service.

On Friday, the STLs came over for our weekly lunch date. They don’t see us very often so they decide to call-ins in person. We went and walked around the pond that we have in our apartment complex looking for the alligator. We didn’t see it, but apparently the elders saw it last week. We need to go on walks more so we can spot it. I need to see a full alligator and not pieces of one. Later that night, we had a dinner appointment with the Mendez family. They fed us Tamales! This is the second time that I have had them. They are really good and interesting. On the way to their trailer we got lost. Trailer parks are the worst because they have so many roads and the numbering is weird. Google Maps is nice but it doesn’t always take you to the right place.

To get to the title, we had soooo many miracles happen on Sunday! We had a lesson with a guy named Vondel. He had so many questions and we taught him the whole Restoration. He asked about the chain of priesthood power, if women get the priesthood, and so much more. We ended up putting him on date for March 6th! Hermana Bowen and I were finally able to get in contact with Osman! We found a ton of new people this week. Just miracle after miracle have been happening. It has been really cool to see it and see how Heavenly Father is with us each step of the way.

Sorry the email was super rushed!
Les amo!!
